Antique Art Nouveau Ceramic Table or Mantel Clock with Bronze Flower Sculptures
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and stunning majolica glazed antique clock from the European Art Nouveau era. If you like rare Arts & Crafts antiques in general and marvelous clocks in particular then this handcrafted table clock from circa 1900-1910 could be the perfect addition to your collection / interior. When you understand how many difficult and time consuming techniques it took to create this antique work of time telling art, will you really be able to appreciate its beauty, rarity and quality. First of all, it would have taken a designer several days, if not weeks, to hand draw this design and this would take multiple sketches. Secondly, a ceramics specialist created the perfectly shaped and glazed majolica 'clock house'. This requires glazing and heating/'baking' in the keln and there too many things can go wrong. Thirdly, the aesthetically beautiful flower sculptures that you now see in gilt bronze, would first have to be sculpted out of clay or another material. From that initial sculpture a mold would have to be made and that mold would then be filled with extremely hot liquid bronze. The bronze sculpture would then have to be sanded, polished and gilt. Fourthly, in both the glazed ceramic clock house and the bronze flowers...

Garniture, clock and candelabra. Bronze, porcelain. France, 19th century.
Located in Madrid, ES
Garnish with clock and candelabra in porcelain and gilt bronze. France, 19th century. Mechanism in perfect working order. Fireplace garnish composed of a clock and two five-light candelabras, all three pieces made by combining gilt bronze, with relief elements and round bulges and cold-chiseled details, and porcelain decorated with low-temperature enamels, including gold enamel. The porcelain pieces follow models from the Sèvres National Manufacture of the 18th century, with large pictorial cartouches on a cobalt blue background adorned with golden plant motifs. The set follows a historicist design that combines baroque and neoclassical elements with enamelled scenes of Rococo inspiration, representing landscapes and scenes with mythological themes alluding to the arts and the goddess Venus. The clockwork is stamped “Chles. MT”, with serial number 17420. The main glazed porcelain plates are signed DP Boncher. The clock follows an architectural structure, with an oval base with a prominent front in plan, raised on four molded feet in the shape of a top, on which a large ornamental vase is placed. This plinth has a distinct pinto and, above it, a main body as a façade, with a circular pediment that houses the clock face. This includes black enamelled Roman numerals on white medallions with a gold border, arranged around the central representation of a putti reclining among clouds, holding a floral garland and accompanied by musical instruments. Among the medallions that house the numbers, a small jeweled decoration that evokes pearls and embedded rubies, which is echoed in the secondary areas of the body of the piece and also the vase, always combined with delicate golden filigrees. On both sides of the sphere are two female portraits of ladies from the 18th century, in oval frames. Below, a classically inspired scene with a muse holding musical instruments, probably Euterpe or Erató, accompanied by a putti reading a sheet of music. On the sides of the clock body, two large curved rectangular plates house highly pictorial enameled landscapes, worked with the same miniaturist precision as the rest of the enameled cartouches. These are landscapes of romantic heritage, again inspired by the 18th century, with ideal settings for a twilight atmosphere, featuring classical ruins. The vase that tops the body of the clock has a hemispherical tank, shoulders ending in an edge, an openwork truncated conical neck, which opens smoothly towards the shoulders, and a domed lid, also openwork. The handles are figurative, in bronze, with two female sisters crowned with flowers, of clear Greco-Latin inspiration, worked in a round shape. In the tank, the vase houses two enameled porcelain cartouches, the front one with two putti and a dove - a symbolic allusion to Venus - and the back one with musical instruments. The design of the clock is completed by two thick bronze S-shaped plant braces, under the vase, and counter moldings and plant motifs cast in relief and cold chiseled, combining matte and polished finishes. The candelabras follow a similar design, with large vases of neoclassical design on pedestals, in this case cylindrical, raised on four low feet of turned design. The bases house porcelain cartouches with scenes of putti related to the arts; In one of them we see two putti practicing painting, and in the other two others in a scene related to classical lyric poetry, with one putto writing while the other, holding a lyre, raises a laurel wreath above his head. The cartouches that occupy the front of the candelabra vases...

Rare Folk Art Black Forest Root Wood Table Clock w. Bell Ringer Monk, Cuckoo St.
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and great folk-art workmanship mantel clock for the collectors and enthousiasts. Over the years we have had the pleasure of owning and selling a number of beautiful Black Forest antiques, but never did we come accross a 19th century Black Forest, Folk Art table clock of this design and subject matter and with such amazing natural organic details. This small church or chapel-like 'clockhouse' is entirely handcrafted out of all kinds of wood, but the most eye-catching is ofcourse the organic root wood. Each piece is like an abstract sculpture and depending on how you see things, they may look like one thing to you, but like something completely different to the next person. Because of all the natural materials that were used this small church has a stunning organic look and feel, but what really takes it to another level is the bell striking mechanism. Every six hours the church bell will ring many times, the door on the left will open at every 'strike', revealing the original monk sculpture inside (as shown in the attached video in this listing). With the hand carved crucifix on the right side being made of the same color and materials, it totally blends in with the entire organic design of this Christian antique. Over the many decades this good size and rare antique clock has also grown the most amazing patina and with the natural beauty and unique artisanship that it radiates people will want to stop and study its uniqueness. This work-of-art-table-clock comes with a single day clock mechanism, protected from dust by the original 'back door'. It runs and strikes perfectly and comes with an antique key for winding it. Apart from a few minor imperfections, this rare antique is in excellent condition, which makes it perfect for lovers of unique and rare clocks in general and for Black Forest and Christian Folk Art collectors in particular. Mind you, our fair price for this sizable antique cuckoo clock...

Fine and Early Sevres Porcelain and Ormolu Antique French Clock
Located in Belper, Derbyshire
A fine and early clock, the case by Henri Picard of Paris and the movement by Raingo Frères. It is beautifully made of ormolu (mercury fire gilded bronze doré) mounted with exquisitely painted Sèvres style porcelain with a Bleu Celeste ground. The front panel shows a young couple, tending a flock of sheep in a tranquil country setting, a sleepy town in the distance. Above the dial she sits in fine clothes and the urn to the top shows them older together, a story of their love. Side panels are beautifully decorated with bows, flowers and a quiver of arrows. Other panels are delicately decorated with over glaze gilt decoration with applied porcelain 'jewels'. The porcelain is all signed to the reveres and numbered with movement number '1453', unusually the case is also numbered. The dial is porcelain with its original finely cut brass Breguet hands and is signed for the clockmaker Raingo Frères. The rear bezel is glazed to allow the movement to be seen. Please note that this design does not have a front glass over the dial. The French movement is of high quality and is by Raingo Freres. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video of the clock running, please ask and we will send you a link. Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding clean and bright with only slight wear and discolouration. Porcelain is also excellent with no damage and hardly any wear. A few porcelain jewels are missing from the top left hand panel where the clock has been held for winding. The dial has a slight firing fault near the number five. Zacharie Raingo was apprenticed in Paris in 1790 and went on to establish Raingo Frères in 1813. Initially specialising in precision astronomical clocks and then after 1825 clocks and bronzes. Clients included the Emperor and Empress. The firm exhibited at many of the important exhibitions of the second half of the 19th century and was known for the fine quality of its ormolu. Henri Picard - The important founder and Gilder Henri Picard was based in Paris at 6, rue Jarente from 1831 to 1839, before moving to 10, rue de la Perle. The firm was active until around 1890. Celebrated for the high quality of his production, Henri Picard supplied many important patrons, including garnand table pieces for the petits appartements of Emperor Napoleon III at the Louvre. An important pair of twelve-light candelabra by Picard remain in the Musée du Louvre today. Raingo Frères clockmaker's mark on the movement backplate Henri Picard bronze...

A Very Large Rare Meissen Porcelain 3 Piece Clock & Candelabra Garniture Set
Located in New York, NY
A Very Large and Rare German Ormolu Mounted Meissen Porcelain Three Piece Clock & Candelabra Garniture Set. This impressive set consists of three pieces: a center clock and two candelabras, each adorned with the most intricate and delicate details that have been executed to perfection. Each three armed candelabra is remarkably elaborate with foliate arms that are embellished with gilt-covered beautifully twisted branches and curling leaves on an ornate botanically-inspired base. Embraced by the arms of the candelabras are two 18th Century Meissen Porcelain figures of musical lovers, dressed in brightly detailed traditional clothes. The round clock face, with roman numerals, a white base, and ornate hands is surrounded by a flourish of gorgeous gilt foliage, exuding an air of elegance and refinement. Perched atop the clock is a stunning Meissen Porcelain figurine of a beautiful woman posed in mid-movement, her dress aflutter, and baring her leg as she gazes up at her left hand which is holding a bunch of grapes, while also grasping a wine goblet in her lowered right hand, representing the festivities of the moment. Surrounding the clock and extending down both sides the gilt foliate leads the eye to two cherubs each admiring tiny vases of exquisitely detailed flowers. Below the cherubs, on either side, are four white ceramic pillars...
