19th Century Terracotta Bust of a Young Girl Signed J. Valette and Dated 1866
About the Item
Beautiful antique sculpture by the French artist Jean Valette. The statue depicts a young girl, with a beautiful modest look and a Christian cross on a chain around her neck. The statue is made of terracotta, and has a beautiful antique appearance.
Jean Valette (1825-1878) enrolled in the School of Fine Arts in Paris in 1848 in the studios of François Jouffroy and Jean-Marie Bonnassieux. He first participated in the Salon in 1847, where he presented Cujas, legal adviser. He made ornamental sculptures for churches. His work was awarded a third medal at the Salon of 1861. His work can be seen in several museums in France and Spain as well as in several Parisian churches.
