Covered Sugar Box in Blue Jasperware. Adams C1790.

About the Item

A fine sugar box in 'Adams Blue' jasperware. William Adams was apprenticed to Josiah Wedgwood, and helped with the development of jasperware. He later founded his own, very successful pottery, and made very fine jasperwar, usually in a distinctive shade of blue. The interlocking circles are typical of Adams during this period; the reliefs have mostly been copied from Wedgwood. Unusually, the box bears an impressed mark for Adams. .
