Robert Winslow
Robert Winslow emerged as a recognized sculptor and painter in the late 1970s. Winslow attended the University of California Irvine and the University of Arizona, where he studied Art. He moved to Chicago, Illinois, where significant corporations commissioned him to do many monumental stone and bronze sculptures. His paintings and sculptures are in the collections of many prominent corporations, including McDonald's Corp., Helene Curtis Corp., The Chicago Board Options Exchange, GATX, Siemens, and Loyola University in Chicago. He is also in several museums, including the Los Angeles Museum of Modern Art, Nelson Art Center on the ASU Campus in Tempe, AZ, and public collections including the City of Barrington, IL, Scottsdale Center for the Arts, Scottsdale, AZ, and The South bend museum of Art. Born in 1950, Robert Winslow spent most of his formative years in Los Angeles and Phoenix, Arizona. Winslow started painting and sculpting stone at a very early age and was in his first museum show at thirteen. There began his lifelong love and obsession with creating Art. His body of work includes many mediums. He is a master sculptor and has worked with marble, granite, optical glass, wood, bronze, and mixed media. His paintings are powerful, masterfully textured, and engagingly thought-provoking.
Winslow melds his sculptural and painting talents with his interpretation of Jungian archetypes. Evident in his paintings and sculptures is the inspiration he draws from pre-Columbian
art, influenced by his many trips to Mexico. Although Winslow works in different mediums, and usually simultaneously, the medium does not drive his work; it is the Art that moves his work. Or, in his own words, "For me the medium isn't the Art. The Art comes before the medium." His interests lie in esoteric philosophies and readings detected in his sculptures and paintings. He has explored many themes throughout his professional career but seems to always center on exploring the inner self. When starting a new piece or series, Winslow never looks for an objective goal, which suggests an ending. He states, "Sometimes things cannot be resolved and lead to related themes. Life is seldom definite and clear-cut. I strive to create archetypal images which are personal but at the same time universal and common to all".

- Monumental Marble "Matrix" Sculpture by Robert WinslowBy Robert WinslowLocated in Chicago, ILElevate your art collection with this exceptional, monumental, freestanding marble sculpture by acclaimed artist Robert Winslow (b. 1950). Created in 1988 and titled “Matrix”, this awe-inspiring artwork offers you a unique opportunity to own an extraordinary piece that showcases the pinnacle of sculptural expression. Measuring an impressive 85" H x 60" W x 38" D, the sculpture is comprised of 12 hand-fabricated, interlocking slabs of solid, polished, dark gray marble stone with white veining. The warm dark gray color often appears as black, depending on the lighting. Each 1.25" thick slab has been skillfully carved and assembled to form an abstract, geometric, multi-plane sculpture with a striking three-dimensional presence. Winslow's masterful craftsmanship is evident in the bullnose rounded edges and gracefully curved slots that ensure there are no sharp edges in the piece. This breathtaking sculpture captures Winslow's innovative approach to design and creative genius, through the captivating array of geometric shapes, angular forms, fluid lines, and sweeping curves. Each piece is a unique shape. The alternating directions of the interlocking pieces add to the sense of movement and dynamism in the sculpture. Four tall marble slabs create the sculpture’s leg structure, creating an abstract anthropomorphic form that appears as if it could walk away at any moment. The creation of the "Matrix" sculptures demanded an extraordinary amount of time and effort from Winslow, especially before the advent of modern 3D rendering and CNC cutting technologies. To ensure the stability and proper fit of these freestanding sculptures, Winslow meticulously crafted multiple maquettes using wood, plaster, and metal. The resulting sculptures are celebrated for their seamless forms, interplay of negative space, and harmoniously counterbalanced protrusions. Originally commissioned by an Executive Vice President of McDonald's Corporation for his Oak Brook, IL home, this monumental masterpiece is now available for the first time on the market since its creation. Rarely do works of this scale and complexity come to market! This “Matrix” sculpture would make a stunning statement piece in a Minimalist entryway foyer or modern living room.
