A pair of 18th century Italian finial bases with coordinating polished agate coral on a Lucite base. Florida’s state stone, agatized coral, began as living coral reef 40 million years ago in the shallow seas over Florida.
Fossil agate coral is Florida's state stone and is known for its unique formation that can take place over 20 million years. It's a natural gemstone that is created when prehistoric coral is gradually replaced with agate.
These are two matching pieces that have been split and polished - revealing the agatized center that coordinates with the Italian gold leaf wood base. Parts of the base have been decorated with finely ground crystals to make it appear as if it evolved together over time.
