Japanese Contemporary Red Three-Piece Porcelain Temple Jar by Master Artist

About the Item

Mesmerizing contemporary Japanese three-piece temple jar, intricately gilded and hand painted on an elegant body, a signed masterpiece by highly acclaimed Japanese master porcelain artist in Imari-Arita tradition of Japan, the recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique gold and platinum work on porcelain. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain, a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. The artist's profile is available upon request. It depicts an auspicious motif with plum blossom in red and medieval palaces in shades of blue. Three paths encircle the vase starting at the base and rising toward the delicately elongated neck. The paths take the traveler through plum orchards in full bloom and past multi-tiered palaces surrounded by a dense field of red blossoms that cover the entire body. A geometric pattern decorates the rim of the jar and the hexagonal lid to create a beautiful contrast. The breathtaking shape, the sheer size and the stunning intricate motif make this a mesmerizing piece that invites the viewer to get closer and explore the details of this magnificent piece. "Fired-on gold," his signature style, highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as five-ten firings. This exquisite hand painted three-piece porcelain jar comes in a custom made wooden case signed by the artist.
