Pair of Vintage Chinese Wucai Ginger Jars, Jingdezhen 1970s

About the Item

A pair of vintage ginger jars, handcrafted in Jingdezhen, China, in the 1970s, Both gingers jars are hand decorated; and exhibit the colourful wucai technique. The wucai method involves painting and decorating the porcelain with enamels after the initial firing, followed by a second firing to set the enamel decoration. The first ginger jar is adorned with a colorful display of butterflies, symbolizing love, freedom, and beauty. The delicate butterflies, depicted in pink and red enamels, flutter gracefully between flower buds and foliage. The second ginger jar features an auspicious rooster crowing proudly amid blooming peony flowers. This highly detailed design employs a palette of bright blue, luminous green, and regal red, highlighted against the soft petal pink of the peonies and lush greenery. The rooster, a symbol of good fortune and prosperity, stands as the centerpiece of this vibrant and symbolic display. Both jars are in good condition, showing only minor wear consistent with their age and use.
