Petite Pre-Columbian Chupícuaro Redware Olla

About the Item

This small olla jar is a beautiful example of Mesoamerican pottery, decorated with red, white, and orange slip in the style of Chupícuaro ware. The wide, globular body of the vessel has a lobed shape resembling a squash or cactus, accentuated by contrasting vertical stripes. The olla has a narrow opening with a short, constricted neck and two strap handles at the shoulder. Beautifully aged with a rich patina and pitted wear, this petite olla is an exquisite example of Pre-Columbian artistry.
