Contemporary Vase, Arabescato Viola Marble Purple Glass Cylinder by Erik Olovsson

About the Item

Drill vases Part chaos and part control, drill vases are an exercise in improvisation. The origin of the project lies in Carrara, and the small fragments of marble found discarded by quarries in the region. I began to collect these stones. Working in the workshop with only hand and hammer, the vases bases are energetically and roughly hewn out from the collected marble. These unpredictable and chaotic forms are precision drilled to form an opening in the base. Each piece is completed by a heavy, hand blown glass vase that rests in the drilled hole. The geometry of the hand blown glass provides a sense of order and control in comparison to the spontaneity of the marble. A contrast that elevates the brut nature of the marble further.

  • Marble Vase Decorative Sculpture White Arabescato Marble Handmade Italy
By Pieruga Marble, Barberini & Gunnell
    Located in Ancona, Marche
Important sculptural vase carved by hand from a solid block of Arabescato marble. Vase dimension: D 52 x H 45 cm. Available in different marble, onyx and quartzite. Limited edition of 35. Each vase is hand signed and numbered by the artists (engraved), 100% handmade in Italy and comes with a “Certificate of Authenticity”. Marble is a natural material, every piece is unique as each marble block is different in veins and color shades. All of our creations are handmade by Italian artisans and can slightly vary in shape and size. This is to be considered as a guarantee of a handmade object. All Pieruga objects are made of precious and natural marbles and onyx. Marble is sensitive to acid-based liquids, especially a prolonged contact with substances such as wine, lemon, vinegar, fruit juices, cola and alcohol can stain the surface. Cleaning should be carried out with a soft sponge, water and neutral detergent. Do not use metallic or abrasive sponges, do not wash in the dishwasher, do not use in the microwave. The color of the marble after washing can undergo variations due to the humidity trapped in the surface’s micro-pores. Once fully dried it will regain its original color. The brass inlays tend to oxidize over time, to make them return to shine again use a soft cotton pad soaked in a solution of water and traditional Marseille soap, gently rub over the brass inserts and rinse the surface thoroughly. We are against the use of chemical products, all Pieruga objects are processed and polished through long manual processes without the use of polishing liquids. Pieruga proudly creates elegant accessories and complements in marble through artisanal processes, bringing into dialogue ancient techniques of sculpture with advanced technologies. 100% handmade in Italy. Our Mission is a clear Signal of opposition to the enormous waste that occurs in the extraction and processing of large blocks of marble, tons of material are discarded and thrown, in disfigurement to the generosity of our mountains. Rediscovering the ancient art of manual sculpture we give new life to even the smallest fragment of marble, bringing to light its millenary beauty that is lost in more than 2000 years of architecture and sculpture. • Shore II, a Blue, Purple, Brown and Mixed Colored Glass Vase by Bethany Wood
    By Bethany Wood
    Located in London, GB
'Shore II' is a unique glass vase from the Molten Landscapes Collection by the British artist Bethany Wood. An equal passion for painting physically inspires how she controls and manipulates her glass. Recreating the fleeting nature of brush strokes, Wood’s molten colors traverse across the surface of her glass canvases blending in a myriad of hues. Unlike their flat painterly counterparts, these combine and merge, forming spontaneous watery and lava like abstract relief flourishes. Taking inspiration from a wide range of sources, Wood’s influences are taken directly from the world around us, elements of the inner-city sit alongside expansive landscapes. Reoccurring themes are Graffiti & Urban Culture, exploration & travel. In the artist's own words; "As a multidisciplinary artist, I have begun to merge my two artistic passions, painting and Glassmaking. I like to express myself with the fluidity of the material. The Directional arrangement of a color palette can form the depth of an abstract Landscape. I use my own paintings as a reference whilst making in the hot shop. Each individual artwork from my series has been inspired by a specific place. Serendipity of abstraction has always been an inspiration for me; the coincidental elements which catch the eye of the viewer. The palette, composition and depth I have attained are taken from nature, with a bold but elegant swipe of my own personal, Expressionist style" Rising glass star, Wood graduated from De Montfort University in 2014 with a degree in Design Crafts, specializing in hot glass. Now based just outside London, she creates her own unique art works and also collaborates with fellow glass artist, Elliot Walker. The artwork is shown paired with Shore I, H 24.5 cm W 17 cm D 8 cm, £1000. Also in the image of three with Naples II, H 41 cm W 27 cm D 12 cm, £2000 and Night Drive...
