French Reconstituted 2-Piece Stone Vase Aux Beliers, 1900's
About the Item
Made from reconstituted stone in the 1900s, this French vase aux beliers (vase with rams) was cast in two pieces. The main body is adorned with thick gadroon lobes under a deep cavetto cornice, which is interrupted by two ram mascarons on opposing sides. In between the rams is a quarter-round rim embellished with an egg and dart motif. The undulating column with a circular foot has two protruding rings of gadroon beneath a leaf cup that envelops the neck. Accumulation of moss and lichen has given the light gray colored stone a white, black, and green patina. Our two-piece vase aux beliers would make a wonderful garden ornament or interior planter.
