Huge Danish Ceramic Art Vase by Ursula Printz Mogensen, Abstract Brutalist 1970s

About the Item

Huge ceramic vase by the German/Danish/Swedish ceramic artist Ursula Printz Mogensen (1920-1993), made ca. 1960s to 1970s. The vase is decorated by hand by the artist and shows an abstract expressionistic decor which gives associations to a landscape with trees. The vase is flat and has two inner walls on the inside to help you decorate it with flowers and branches. It's made from stoneware and is quite heavy: approx. 7,6kg / 268 oz. About the artist Ursula Printz Mogensen grew up in Germany and 17 years old she emigrated together with her jewish family to Sweden. In 1939 she got an internship as a painter at the Swedish ceramic manufacturer Gustavsberg and in 1942 she became leader of their faience department. In 1951 she travelled to Denmark and was employed at Royal Copenhagen. Here she met her later husband Jørgen Mogensen. 1954 they opened their own ceramic studio in Holte close to Copenhagen.
