Large Cloud White Plum Vase

About the Item

Drawing on a long Chinese tradition of monochrome ceramics, this large porcelain vase is glazed in serene, cloud-inspired white with celadon undertones. Sculpted by artisans in China's Zhejiang province, the vase has an impressive sculptural form with broad, rounded shoulders and a dramatic taper towards a narrow base. This curving form is a modern variation of the traditional meiping form, also known as a plum vase. The striking, cool white glaze nods to the Song dynasty (960–1279), when tastes shifted to monochrome glazes in single, statement-making colors. Each jar is hand-made. Dimensions vary slightly.
