Dominating the design are two mustard yellow butterflies, gracefully meeting over elegant tulip-shaped leaves. These elements are set against a dark grey and white overlay striped background, created using the sgraffito technique. Sgraffito, a decorative art form developed by Polish designer Marian Zawadzki in the 1950s, involves carving fine lines into the surface of a design through a light-colored glaze to reveal a contrasting dark grey clay slip beneath.
