Mid Century Modern Wade Pottery England J&B Scotch Whisky Ceramic Ashtray

About the Item

Vintage Mid Century Modern J&B Scotch Whisky ceramic advertising ashtray was made in England by Wade Pottery. The rectangular ashtray with cigarette holders on each corner is glazed in complex mustard yellow glossy glaze and decorated with Scotch J&B Whisky in black and red on both long sides on the rectangle. Wade Ceramics was formed by merging three different companies founded by various members of the Wade family; they were united as Wade Potteries Limited in 1958. The original companies were formed in 1867-1891. In the 1950s Wade Pottery came up with famous Wade Whimsies figurines, and in 1960s Wade started producing advertising and promotional ceramics such as whisky decanters, teapots, and butter dishes, among others. The ashtray is clearly marked on the bottom with manufacturer's stamp.
