19th Century Rustic French Faïence Majolica Square Asparagus Plate

About the Item

A rustic country French barbotine Majolica glazed Asparagus plate, circa 1890-1900, maker unknown. A natural colored square plate, heavily potted, showing bound and arching asparagus spears on each side. The raised asparagus are glazed in pale green with deep purple tips, and tied with brown cord. A deep sauce well is at the bottom. 8.75 in. square x 1.75 in. H. Overall crazing and minor darkening to the rim.
