William IV period antique silver serving tray

About the Item

Superb quality and highly decorative two-handled antique silver tray. Fitted with two cast scroll, leaf and scallop shell pattern handles, an applied cast border decorated with intricate openwork patterns runs around the tray, and incorporates berries, buds, flowers and scrolling foliage in the profuse decoration. The surface of the tray is elaborately hand chased with similar decorations to that of the border, while the central shield is engraved with the original presentation inscription which reads: To Isaac Wilcockson, Esquire, This Salver is presented by the Proprietors of the Preston Gas-Light Company to mark their sense of his attention to their interests as one of the Trustees to whose management their affairs have been confided without intermission during the period of fourteen years. The tray is accompanied by both its original presentation case and a letter contemporary with the item. This is a lovely and original example of designs made popular during this particular era in the early 1800s. It is an ideal size for a drinks tray or three-piece tea or coffee set. Weight: 2496 g (80.25 troy ozs)
