During the Georgian era, seals played a crucial role as protectors of important documents. Following the passing of her husband, Hester Bateman, then 52 years old with a sizable family, took charge of his business. Recognized as Britain's premier silversmith, she ascended to prominence in 1760, steering the enterprise for three decades until her retirement in 1790.
