Commissioned Paavo Tynell Floor Lamp Model 9617, Taito
About the Item
An extremely rare model that was never in catalogues and was only made by order or private commissions. A large floor lamp with a much thicker stem wrapped in its original rattan and standing on a beautifully designed tripod leg made of painted metal and a brass part. The upper part is also made of brass and has a much bigger joint than in normal standard Tynells. The shade is also larger than normal and renewed on original frame.
The lamp was commissioned along with all the lightings for the same private residence in the city of Jyväskylä.
Chances are, this is one of the very few, if at all existing lamps of the same model. The drawings for the lamp, a sketch with model number and photos of also similar designs are in the Tynell Archives.

- Condition:Reupholstered. Refinished. Rewired: All wirings renewed. Wear consistent with age and use. The brass parts were polished, leg retouched and the shade reupholstered on original frame.

Paavo Tynell
Paavo Tynell, who was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1890, started his career as a tin- and blacksmith at the company Kory Oy. Simultaneously, he studied at the Helsinki University of Industrial Arts, from which he graduated as a master craftsman in 1913. In 1918, Tynell co-founded the metalwork and lighting company Oy Taito Ab. At first, the company focused mostly on interior and exterior metalwork, such as statues and railings. Later, during the 1930s, Taito also began producing lamps for the lighting sector. Both Alvar Aalto and Kaj Franck would design works for the company.
