Afan Lamp by Rodrigo Lobato Yáñes

About the Item

Afan lamp by Rodrigo Lobato Yáñes Dimensions: W 68 x D 33 x H 28.4 cm Materials: Chromed steel sheet, purple neon, 3D printed ABS clamping elements, steel cable Platalea studio was born out of a passion for both art and design. We love how both are so intrinsically intertwined in ways that are often too subtle to surmise in our everyday routines. Our goal is to provide a voice for those who are often marginalized or hidden in the shadows. We do this by representing our ideologies through our designs, the materials we pick and the people we choose to build them. At Platalea, we have composed and exhibited varied collections that range from unique exhibition pieces to dinnerware, rugs, benches, stools and light fixtures. Each piece belongs to a collection that was carefully fleshed out by our artists and designers to give them a fascinating story brimming with history and intent. Lilia has always had a penchant for making her ideas leap off the page and become physical objects that convey her artistic vision mixed with social intent. She prefers to work with materials and techniques that allow her to create three-dimensional objects that have fun and often unusual shapes that bring a smile and a sense of joy. Lilia’s expertise lies in understanding social and political issues and conveying them through her art and designs. Lilia needs to immerse herself by a topic and build a relationship with the wealth of materials and methods available to her, only then will she start crafting the soul of the piece. Lilia believes in her art being enjoyed, being tactile, not stationary. Her art is meant to synergize with its environment, it is intended to take on a life of its own after it leaves her workshop. The soul which she has imbued into her art will forever linger, but her pieces are always evolving. Rodrigo has always had a passion for working with local artisans from remote regions all over Mexico. He specializes in learning local techniques from artisans to bring his designs to life, all while retaining the tradition and soul of old techniques but with the polish and style of modern design. As the founder of Platalea, Lilia serves as our artistic director. Lilia ensures that the vision and soul of all of our work convey the same message of inclusion and joy in everyday objects. Rodrigo is a master of materials and processes, and as such, he not only designs but is in charge of production here at Platalea. .

Lamp 2 by Rodrigo Pinto Floor lamp Handmade colored glass and iron Vitrofusion thermoformed and metal working 40 W x 40 D x 173 H cm Edition of 7 For many years, I have been plagued by persistent dreams that conjure forth the demise of the world we know. This notion has clung to me since my childhood, an obsession woven into the very fabric of my existence. Within these pieces, I strive to distill the essence of a potential "architecture of the future," a concept elegantly defined by my compatriot Carlos Nuñez, a visionary curator hailing from Chile. Some of these creations speak to catastrophic events of an architectural nature, where the implosion of structures adorned with sinewy metal beams and expansive windows becomes suspended in the tides of time. Others bear witness to the reclamation of objects by nature...
