Pair of French Empire Style Patinated and Gilt Bronze Victory Sconces
About the Item
A very large and dramatic pair of French Empire style wall sconces in finely chased patinated and gilded bronze. A large winged Victory in high relief stands on a gilded globe studded with stars. She holds a gilded wreath in each outstretched hand, atop her head is a gilded disk from which five candle arms are attached topped with a further gilded urn. The original candleholders were recently wired for electricity. A near pair is found in the Palace of Compiegne outside Paris, French, early to mid-19th century.
