XL Light, 2018 Inspired by Thomas Edison’s revolutionary lighting experiments, the XL Collection is physically and philosophically anchored by a modern Edison lightbulb. Together with semi-finished industrial components, including a transparent Borosilicate blown glass base, it recalls the still-existent Edison Laboratories, where the infamous inventor developed devices that altered the world’s course. The lamp’s signature visible, extendable black PVC cord infuses the fixed objects with a sense of movement, while the XL and XXL’s respective designs honor the groundbreaking bulb in trademark ways. Portable table light provides direct and diffused light. The 4 meter cord is revealed within the glass base allowing it to be released when needed. There is a dimmable on/off foot pedal switch. The XL fixture places a classic silver-crowned, floating Edison bulb at the centre of its design. Based in Milan, Italy, Nita was founded by Nicolo Taliani, who unites his European heritage with an ongoing exploration of sculpture and fine art, establishing a unique design language that synthesises myriad inspirations. From architects Renzo Piano and Le Corbusier to artists Constantin Brancusi, Lucio Fontana and Isamu Noguchi to post-modernism and futurism movements, and beyond, this wellspring combine to inform declarative objects, including jewellery, lighting, furniture and sculpture. Nita‘s products are meant to preserve the inherent qualities and imperfections of the given materials. All the products are handmade with this philosophy in mind.
