A Fabulous Large 19th Century Giltwood Overmantel Mirror
About the Item
A fabulous 19th Century giltwood overmantel mirror of large proportions, finely hand carved and of exceptional quality. The arch top mirror glass plate is set within a beautifully simple, moulded and fluted giltwood frame of rectangular form. Surmounted with shaped architectural top with a stunning pierced centred crest composition comprising of centred scallop shell and flowerheads flanked with a further arrangement of shells, scrolls and trailing acanthus leaves, all elaborately carved in high relief. Raised over an overhanging stepped pediment with intricate foliate detail and adorned with decorative scrolls and acanthus leaves to the panelled top corner returns. Supported on shaped platform base with a further gorgeous arrangement of scrolls and acanthus leaf motif detail to each side.
