About the Item

A rare vintage pair of Italian modernist burled walnut bedside cabinets, circa 1940s. Born in Italy in the mid-20th century, fine quality craftsmanship, crafted in Art Deco style, finished in period Streamline Moderne taste, the cabinets aesthetic drawing from French Cubism, Art Déco, and classic European midcentury modernism. Style influence in the manner of iconic Italian designers Gio Ponti & Emilio Lancia, and important Czech designer Jindrich Halabala. Having a single central raised shelf topper, over rich book-matched burlwood squared trapezoid shaped case with gently curved corners - rounded edge, and a contrasting maple undulating molded bezel framed double-door cabinet, affixed with original free-form crystal waterfall shell handle pulls, opening to reveal a fitted interior with quality dovetail joined solid wood drawer and various size divided shelves. The silhouette softening with a delicate sculpted base, with carved walnut scalloped skirt, rising elegantly on out-swept curved splayed legs, ending in cylindrical shape tubular solid brass feet. With their unusual atomic era form, funky silhouette and rich mix of decorative elements, these rare specimens are sure to add a touch of luxurious elegance and exotic decorative splendor to almost any space! Dimensions: (approx) 30" high, 23.5" wide, 15" deep Presents splendidly! In great condition overall, especially considering age of approximately 80 years, having beautiful warm, rich patina over the whole, adding luminous depth and an attractive mellow warmth. Nicely aged walnut coloring, superb highly figured grain detail and lustrous antique wood glow. Solid, sturdy, stable and structurally sound. Wear and tear commensurate with age and use. Worn, typical expected imperfections including small areas of fading, light discoloration scuffing, scratching, veneer repair, light scratches, chips or nicks. Scattered rough finish. Nothing that detracts from the overall display but only adds to the overall antique character, charm and stylish artistic depth. Our workshop will again go through them carefully just prior to shipping, deep cleaning, providing wood moisturizing treatment, hand waxed, finished in French polished patina, ready for immediate use.
