This is a vintage carved decorative ammonite. An African, opalized fossil on display plinth, dating to Cretaceous period millions of years ago, polished and presented circa 1970.
Skilfully carved ammonite with fine decorative appeal
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
Beautifully polished shell, the hand carved ammonoid form adding a tentacle effect
Fossilised roughly 100 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period
Accentuated with dendritic patterns from the fine white sutures
Lightly translucent to the edge when viewed in direct light
Presented upon a wooden base in the rustic manner
Removable from the plinth to enjoy the tactile polished finish
