Victorian Miniature Mahogany Centre Table

About the Item

An Attractive And Charming Mid 19th Century Mahogany Miniature Centre Table, With Tilting Top Over Turned Central Support And Triform Base With Elegant Scrolling Feet. There is often debate as to the original purpose regarding many items of miniature furniture, with some people believing them to be “apprentice pieces”. This was when an aspiring craftsmen who was seeking work at an established cabinet making workshop would create something to showcase his talents. Many others believe that they were made as “salesman’s sample pieces” which was when scale models of a workshop's output were made in advance of a road trip, during which the salesman used these models to present to prospective clients and take orders based on their designs. These miniature centre tables come in many different shapes, sizes, qualities and designs and were nearly always created as salesman’s sample pieces, i.e. scale models of bigger versions. Circa 1870. Height - 7.5in. Diameter - 10in.
