A recognizable planet in a world beyond recognition. A fusion of realism and imagination, a meeting of future and past. A dream world that does yet does not exist. A playful reproduction of the many hues and nuances that can be found on this planet. An open world without borders, with infinite endless possibilities. Seeing earth as a beautiful planet, and capturing its beauty in a boundless aesthetic creation is a dream. A naive, but delightful dream.
Alex de Witte is fascinated by the universal value of beauty and how to influence that. “It is fascinating to me how people have an overall communal perception of beauty. Like scientific studies...

Vintage Surrealist Crystal Sculpture of a Hand Holding the World Globe
Located in Hudson, NY
This heavy and impressive crystal art object made mid-1950s is cast and then carved and engraved. The considerable amount of technical skill required shows a master at his craft. The hand created first then set with the globe second and after cooling the engraved longitude and latitude lines, continents and islands engraved creating the whole. Unsigned but completely worked by hand the piece is simple and dramatic without being overwhelming. It shows a considerable amount of wear on the ground smooth pontil but otherwise is in perfect condition.

Early 20th Century French Globe on Carved Walnut Base Signed J. Forrest, Paris
Located in Dallas, TX
Decorate an office or a desk with this beautifully preserved antique terrestrial globe. Crafted in France, circa 1920 (it shows Constantinople not Istanbul; the city changed its name in 1930), the terrestrial piece sits on a walnut pedestal base. The brass stem holds the 12" swivel globe which is signed J. Forrest Paris (see picture), and stamped as such; "Globe Terrestre a l'echelle de 40,000,000, dresse par J. Forrest, geographe, Officier de l'Instruction Publique, Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur, Editeur, 17-19 rue de Buci, Paris". The colorful globe is in very good condition commensurate with age and use, with a rich patinated finish.
J. Forest made a large variety of globes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, largely for school use, but also for home use. Their prolific output included table globes, some on ebonized turned stands; floor globes; and novelty globes, including terrestrial globes on geared turntable stands...
