Antique Manastir Kilim Northwest Anatolian Old Rug Turkish Carpet

About the Item

This is Northwest Anatolian Antique Kilim from the Manastir region with a rare and beautiful color composition. This kilim is chic and natural yet has the most beautiful combination of vibrant dyed colors. Each dyed color is deep and calm, yet powerful and beautiful, full of energy. In particular, the intensity of the madder dye and the gradation are indescribably attractive. The color of this kilim is created by layering the same brown and beige colors, but with variations in two directions: strong red and yellow, which complement each other's vibrancy. Even the same browns and beiges create a vivid contrast, and the addition of the dark blue of indigo, which compliments both red and yellow, makes it even more vivid. The weave is finely and tightly woven using thin, strongly twisted threads, making it extremely fine and beautiful, as well as being thin and supple. The curved lines in the pattern on the top (wave technique) are also an advanced weaving technique. The zigzag medallion with a star in the center has a bold and simple design, but it is a pattern that takes full advantage of the beauty of this dyed color. This is a high-quality piece made by a skilled Anatolian weaver with a high level of sensitivity and technique.

  • Vintage Malatya Kilim Rug Old Anatolian Turkish Carpet
    Located in Tokyo, JP
This is a South Eastern Anatolian old vintage Kilim from the Malatya region with a rare and beautiful color composition. Malatya is a town built on one main street that continues for several miles. It is situated in the Tohmasuyu River basin which is encircled by the high peaks of the eastern Taurus Mountains. This is a fertile agricultural region, particularly for apricots, and has been a prolific weaving area for many years. The modern town was established in 1838; old Malatya, which is close by, was once an important city in Armenia Minor. In Roman times it was important as a garrison town on the eastern frontier, and the settlement came under Ottoman rule in the early fifteenth century. Considering the number of kilims woven in this region there is a surprising lack of diversity in design, especially in the larger kilims; this is possibly a direct result of the Kurdish tribal tradition of weaving only one type of design. Small prayer rugs...
