"Blade Arm" Lounge Chair & Ottoman Set by Ib Kofod Larsen, Selig, Denmark, 1960s

About the Item

Introducing a true Danish Modern masterpiece: an ultra-rare "Blade Arm" chair and ottoman set designed by the incomparable Ib Kofod Larsen for Selig. This architecturally stunning set has been fully restored and newly upholstered in a fabulous faded Canary yellow cotton bouclé, making it the perfect addition to any modern home. Constructed from solid Beech wood and stained chocolate walnut (in exact accordance with the original finish and materials), this now iconic chair and ottoman set is both durable and stylish, comfortable and utterly breathtaking from every angel. Ib Kofod-Larsen was a venerated architect who formed part of a movement known as Danish Modern. Larsen was a purist and considered himself as more of an artisan than an architect or designer and his extensive catalog is proof of that. He was respected for having an exceptional understanding of materials and an eye for the potential of the wood and the quality of the raw materials he used. He often worked in different types of wood – mainly teak and palisander in combination with real leather which is why we chose to add cotton bouclé to this set in homage to the original design and intention. The Selig Manufacturing Co was at the cutting edge of contemporary furniture during the mid 20th century. Selig Furniture was founded by Mendell Selig and Samuel Wexler in Gardner, Massachusetts in 1931. By the 1950s the company had grown to become one of America's leading importers and producers of contemporary furniture. The company focused on the high end designs being produced in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries. Their product range epitomized the simple, elegant and airy forms typical of post-war Danish furniture design on display in this exquisite set's aesthetic and form. With it's instantly recognizable saber-shaped arms, new upholstery and refinished wood this icon of Danish design is perfect for both collectors and designers alike searching for an authentic Larsen chair and ottoman set that is ready for a literal lifetime more of use. Equal parts comfort and aesthetics this set can blend seamlessly against a multitude of design backdrops from Mid-Century Modern to Contemporary to Minimalism and everything in between. Historically these chairs and ottomans do not come along often and are quick to sell. Make them yours today before they're gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Chair Width: 30.5 in / 77.47 cm Chair Depth: 32 in / 81.28 cm Chair Height: 27 in / 68.58 cm Seat Height: 15 in / 38.1 cm Arm Height: 22.5 in / 57.15 cm Ottoman Width: 25 in Ottoman Depth: 21 in Ottoman Height: 15.5 in This stunning "Blade Arm" lounge chair and ottoman have recently undergone a complete and exhaustive restoration process featuring new upholstery. The solid beech wood, stained walnut (as was the original stain and tone), has been hand-sanded and refinished using the exact techniques and materials as was originally utilized 60+ years ago and shows no scratches, nicks or other blemishes whatsoever. The cushions, reupholstered in a kind-to-the-touch faded canary yellow cotton bouclé, is in showroom never-sat-in condition and perfectly offsets the rich, dark mocha tones of the wood. The cushions are original and provide a firm, comfortable sink. The support straps have been replaced providing extra support. This iconic "Blade Arm" chair and ottoman set is incredibly comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more of use thanks to it's recent restoration process.
