19th Century, French Hall Bench Settle Renaissance Carved Oak Breton Brittany

19th century French hall bench settle renaissance carved oak Breton Brittany. Direct from France, a massive antique French hall bench, large enough for any home or castle! The 6.5 ft. back features an upper panel of mythic creatures above three highly carved figural panels having carved cupids, creatures, profile medallions with foliate accents. Beneath these are three more panels having carved Breton/Brittany profile medallions of men/ladies in period dress. There are three more of these carved character medallions on the lower chest front, for a total of six different characters…if only we knew their stories!! Large sweeping carved arms frame the paneled seat bench that lifts to reveal large storage space inside. Solid, heavy, and strong, well built by craftsmen of the period, circa 1890.
