Club Chair Inspired by Jean-Michel Frank & Adnet in Real Alligator by Old Plank

About the Item

French Art Deco inspired Club Chair, one of a pair in stock upholstered in genuine Alligator hides. Many years ago, a great designer once told me that if you are going to copy someone’s work, make sure you are copying from only the best. There is little question that Jean-Michel Frank and Jacques Adnet were two of the world's finest interior designers and our Old Plank Alligator Club Chair was inspired by both of their works. In 1924 Jean Rene Guerrand (honorary president Hermès) commissioned Jean-Michel Frank to design upholstered furniture, including a very similar club chair recently added to the Old Plank Collection of French inspired leather Club Chairs. We were fortunate enough to have had what we believe is a genuine 1920’s Crocodile French Club Chair to copy from. Our inhouse Old Plank woodworking department collaborated with our Old Plank upholstery shop and what you are witnessing are the results of 6-months hard tedious work. Our finishing department dyed each alligator hide to mimic an original 1930’s crocodile club chair we have in our inventory. The upholstery department used strictly old school methods and materials during the installation of the genuine alligator hides, which includes horsehair, shredded coco fibers, cotton and no artificial materials, while the coil springs were tied 8-ways by hand. Our Old Plank Club Chair is covered in a combination of real alligator hides for the majority of the club chair, although the three outside panels are covered in faux crocodile and again dyed to match the original alligator hides. This is actually no different than what the automobile industry does, where the seating surface would be leather, but the backside would be faux leather. Since these French Art Deco inspired Leather Club Chairs are now a permanent part of the Old Plank Club Chair Collection they can be ordered in any type/color of leather and would be priced accordingly. Notes: we do have the ID tags as removed from the hides and there is currently a second matching alligator chair in production also available.
