Wingback Welsh Lambing Chair

About the Item

A paneled chair in elm and oak with solid back and sides and single drawer under seat, with well-formed curved flattened arms ending in broadened hand supports suitable for supporting a cup of tea, featuring canted side wings and a deeply scalloped shaped top above wings and chair back, and and standing on sled feet below shaped apron. The whole possessing good rich color and patination. Called a lambing chair as legend has it that it was placed near the fireplace and orphan lambs were sheltered and bottle fed in the partly open drawer. Wales, 18th century. Dimensions: 30" wide x 24" deep x 43" high Seat: 20" wide x 14" deep x 14" high.
