Antique free-standing shop counter with gray painted finish, 8.5' long. The old gray paint is distressed throughout adding to the authentic vintage feel of this sideboard (touches of white underneath). The top is natural pine and has very little residual gray paint, the wood creating a warm contrast to the painted base. The back is paneled which makes this fun cabinet ideal for a free standing kitchen island. Antique 5' shop counter with original residual paint over natural pine. Yellow, green and brown paint are still visible on the open storage side, while the opposite enclosed counter has red and green trim with white on the panel doors. All the paint is distressed and worn away from generations of use, adding to the authentic vintage feel of this sideboard. The back is paneled which makes this fun cabinet ideal for a free standing kitchen island. This large and sleek sideboard is made from five different kinds of Makassar ebony veneer. Makassar is an exotic hardwood prized for its hardness, durability and beautiful grain. It first became widely known during the Art Deco period, largely due to its use by French furniture makers. Hungarian Art Deco tended to be simpler and less curvaceous that French Deco. After World War 2, Hungary was less accessible to foreign travelers and the fine furniture made during the interwar years disappeared from the market until the early 2000's. Few original pieces remain but some surviving ateliers now produce excellent modern ones, usually based on vintage designs. This sideboard has a French polish finish and solid nickel hardware.
