This cocktail/coffee table is a visually captivating statement piece. It was entirely hand crafted in Los Angeles out of locally sourced American Black Walnut. The tempered glass exposes vibrant natural live edges on all inward facing sides. Twelve inches below the glass is the lower shelf made of perfectly joined figured walnut. Unlike most Live Edge style pieces which need to be sanded smooth and coated with a plastic, this is kept as natural as possible. The top is inset tempered glass exposing the natural beauty and vibrancy of Walnut with no use of resin or stain. The lumber was rescued from trees that were either dying or removed by the city of Los Angeles. The material was then kiln dried without being steamed because the steaming process takes away from the contrast and vibrancy of the natural colors. The 1/4 inch tempered glass is scratch resistant and far more durable than resin. It rests flush in the wood and is easily replaceable. There are about three inches of Walnut on the edge of the table, finely polished with the same natural oil finish used by Sam Maloof. Created by Artist, Designer and Mixed Media Sculptor Jom Rivers to meet the goal of highlighting the true natural Live Edge style without the use of toxic chemicals. Rivers started creating fine Furnature during a fellowship at the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for the Arts and Crafts in Alta Loma California.
