Late 17th Century Giltwood Console Table
About the Item
A fine late 17th-early 18th century Italian or French giltwood console table retaining much of its original gilding; supported on well carved caryatids with scroll feet; the frieze with carved acanthus leaves, Rococo scrolls and a carved mask on a ground with incised lattice decoration. The mottled grey marble was probably made for the table in the 18th century.
Provenance: Birr Castle, County Offaly, Ireland: the home of the Earl of Rosse.
