Minimalist Italian Travertine Console Table

About the Item

This minimalist modern solid travertine waterfall console table from Italy, circa 1970s, embodies the essence of monolithic design. Crafted from robust travertine stone, the table boasts a substantial presence with thick 3.5-inch legs and a surface that showcases the natural beauty and variegation of the stone in beige, tan, and cream tones. The sleek, uninterrupted lines of the waterfall design allow the rich textures and colors of the travertine to take center stage, creating a piece that is as much a work of art as it is a functional piece of furniture. The seamless transition from the tabletop to the legs forms a continuous and fluid contour that emphasizes the purity of form characteristic of minimalist design. Measuring 28.25 inches in height, 72 inches in width, and 18 inches in depth, this console table is perfectly proportioned for an entry foyer, adding an air of sophistication, or placed behind a sofa to anchor a living space with its timeless elegance. While minor etched spots and an inherent fissure in one corner bear witness to its history and authentic vintage character, these subtle marks do not detract from the table’s overall magnificence. In very good vintage condition, this piece has a striking presence in person, inviting touch and admiration. The travertine's warm, neutral palette and the table's architectural form allow it to blend seamlessly with a variety of decor styles, from the strictly modern to the more eclectic. This console table is a statement piece, offering both visual impact and the practicality of surface space, sure to be a focal point in any interior.

  • Monumental Travertine "Matrix" Sculpture by Robert Winslow
    By Robert Winslow
    Located in Chicago, IL
Discover the epitome of artistic mastery with this incredible, monumental, freestanding travertine sculpture by acclaimed artist Robert Winslow (b. 1950). Titled "Matrix D" and crafted in 1985, this awe-inspiring artwork offers you a unique opportunity to own an extraordinary piece that showcases the pinnacle of sculptural expression. Measuring an impressive 116" H x 68" W x 39" D, the sculpture is composed of 27 hand-fabricated, interlocking slabs of solid, unfilled, honed travertine stone, sourced from a now-depleted quarry near Sedona, Arizona. Each 1.25" thick slab is meticulously carved and fitted to create an abstract, geometric, multi-plane sculpture with a stunning three-dimensional presence. Winslow's masterful craftsmanship is evident in the bullnose rounded edges and gracefully curved slots that ensure there are no sharp edges in the piece. This striking sculpture captures Winslow's innovative approach to design and creative genius, through the captivating array of geometric shapes, angular forms, fluid lines, and sweeping curves. Each piece is a unique shape. The two separated leg structures, composed of six travertine slabs, serve as a stable foundation while the interlocking pieces create an ascending structure, culminating at a towering height of 116”. The alternating directions of the interlocking pieces add to the sense of movement and dynamism in the sculpture. The creation of the "Matrix" sculptures demanded an extraordinary amount of time and effort from Winslow, especially before the advent of modern 3D rendering and CNC cutting technologies. To ensure the stability and proper fit of these freestanding sculptures, Winslow meticulously crafted multiple maquettes using wood, plaster, and metal. The resulting sculptures are celebrated for their modern forms, interplay of negative space, and harmoniously counterbalanced protrusions. Originally commissioned by an Executive Vice President of McDonald's Corporation for his Oak Brook, IL home, this monumental masterpiece is now available for the first time on the market since its creation. Rarely do works of this scale and complexity come to market! "Matrix D" would make a stunning statement piece in a grand entryway, double-height living room, or commercial or residential building lobby. Don't miss this unparalleled opportunity to own a breathtaking example of Robert Winslow's artistry and elevate your space with a true conversation starter.
