Mahogany Drop Leaf Work Table, Early 19th Century American Empire
About the Item
An American Empire mahogany drop-leaf worktable ready for light tasks or to function as a beautiful piece.
Appraisers say it was probably produced in New York from 1825 to 1835. Designers will love deciding how to pair this vintage item with more contemporary plans. Wether folded away or opened with the workspace visible, this is a fascinating piece of furniture.
The top is rectangular with a rounded edged top and the drop leaves are also two rule-edged. The piece has two drawers with glass pulls. It is raised on a flaring squared pedestal, all on a scrolling quadripartite base. Solid wood drawers have dovetail joints. The piece is in good condition, but there are signs of wear to the finish. This is a collectible piece, antique--but the design and functionality give it a contemporary feel.

- 19th Century Corner Chair American or EnglishLocated in Lomita, CAThe cherub upholstery fabric of this antique corner chair will bring a smile to your face, but the piece deserves a deeper look. It has a secret.: The chair has a "second skin," in a tweed upholstery that someone was reluctant to remove. The cherub upholstery on the armrest of the chair is actually a shawl or drape for the for the chair. It is Victorian, carved and turned walnut on a part-upholstered corner armchair that is English or American from the late 19th Century according to our appraiser. The seat is triangular with a rounded front rail, that is backed by two low arms with raised upholstery. The curved seat rail has a long fringe trim, all raised on four cylindrical bead turned legs on casters. The detachable fabric drape or shawl is priceless.
