19th Century French Empire Grand Tour Specimen Games Table

About the Item

A magnificent nineteenth-century French Empire parcel gilt mahogany table with stunning specimen marble games centre table circular top. Featuring an exceptionally executed Italian Grand Tour style specimen top embellished with over one hundred different rare and exotic marble inlays and precious gem stones, comprising the most beautiful examples of Lapis blue, Malachite green, Carrera white, Sienna, Nero Portoro black, Pietra gray, Rojo Levante and Verde Indio green to name just a few. Round form, banded inlay, double framed with a variety of oval filet shape inlays, the center portion with brilliant colorful samples inlaid in square shapes, arranged as a chess board. Atop a tripartite base with circular solid mahogany platform top, over rich highly figured flame mahogany veneered apron, rising on a substantial hexagonal pedestal standard with gilded neck crown molding, accented with decorative solid mahogany "C" scrolls terminating in sculptural hand carved gilt wood dolphin heads, resting on sturdy triangular shaped base. Dimensions: (approx) 29" High, 36" Diameter Ideal size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including in the foyer as a stunning entry statement piece, placed in the middle of the room as a centre cocktail table, oversized guéridon, gaming cards table, kitchen or dining table, and more. The table is in great condition overall, especially considering its age. The marble top appears to be in excellent condition. The base presents well, with warm, rich color and nicely aged patina over the whole. Strong, sturdy and stable, the base retaining original antique character marks throughout, all wear and tear consistent with age and indicative of use, including various minor imperfections such as scattered chips, nicks, old touchups, and possible old past repairs. Nothing that detracts from the overall display or functionality, but only adds to the sophisticated antique character, elegant warmth, and charming historical depth that can only be acquired over long periods of time. Delivered cleaned, hand waxed, polished French patina finish, ready for immediate use, and many more years of generational enjoyment.
