France Art Deco Beautiful Women Four Seasons Panel Set Four 1930
About the Item
From an important thirty year old New England collection of Arts & Crafts furnishings.
Four unique Four Seasons works of art, circa 1930.
This is a beautiful French art deco period set of four (4) hand incised hard wood panels depicting beautiful women posing in the Four Seasons - all hand incised and hand painted and dating to circa 1930. Each simulated frame /panel is incised with a different romantic female cameo. Encircled in each panel corner are hand painted decorative floral motifs such as sun flowers. In addition each panel along their respective outside perimeter edge -each possess thin inlaid tin metal work- a wonderful charming French touch !
The four gorgeous romantic women feature prominent hair coiffure of that day, simple jewelry, and enchanting and painted floral designs that enhance the attractive portraits.
Dimensions: Each panel is 13.25 inches high and 13.25 inches wide.
Handmade, hand carved, stained and hand burned using pyrographic techniques
Provenance: Originally discovered in Strasbourg, France and then an old New England collection.
History of the Pyrography:
py·rog·ra·phy, a noun, is the art or technique of decorating wood or leather by burning a design on the surface with a heated metallic point. Pyrography was particular popular in America and Europe during the last quarter of the 19th century and first quarter of the 20th century.
