About the Item
A magnificent example of midcentury reverse-painted glass, this piece by Marianna von Allesch depicts a woman and her square-jawed dog, possibly a boxer, amidst a grove of trees and a patchwork of color. The artist is well known for her ceramic lamps, tables and sculptures, and she was also an accomplished painter. Here, she used a metal foil, possibly silver, over the painted scene to give a silvery-bronze glow to the piece. The figure's highly decorative gown, covered in geometric patterns in blue and gray, is the highlight of the piece.
