Original vintage British Railways poster for Somerset in South West England featuring a fun and colourful pictorial map with illustrations and descriptions of ancient myths and legends, traditions and nursery rhyme characters, notable people and historic events, the coats of arms of Bristol Glastonbury Bath Bridgwater Taunton Weston Super-Mare and Wells, information on The County of Somerset and various towns and cities, images including a smuggler on the Bristol Channel and a man in stocks at Church Stanton, St Dunstan catching the Devil's nose in Glastonbury, a witch on a broomstick, the highwayman Tom Faggus on a horse, portraits of the famous literary figures Tennyson Coleridge and Thackeray at Clevedon, sailors, dancers, a Roman soldier holding a spear and shield, Dr John Bull in his Union Jack flag waistcoat at Wellow, people on holiday, stag hunting and a fox hunter on a horse with two dogs, a carving of St George and the Dragon at Crewkerne, a sword at the legendary site of Camelot at the Iron Age hill fort Cadbury Castle, and black and white views of various places of interest with the red dragon holding a blue mace coat of arms above the Somerset title in a decorative scroll design above, the train routes linking the towns in red and the British Railways logo in the compass point on the side below. Printed by Waterlow and Sons. Published by the British Railways Western Region. Horizontal. Large size. Good condition, creasing, staining, small paper loss in top right corner, bumps on edges.
