"Source, " Rare Art Deco Artist's Print by Mackall
About the Item
"Source" a rare artist's working print, was the basis for a mural or bas-relief sculpture for the interior or facade of a building in the Art Deco era probably a water treatment building in the Baltimore area. Perhaps because the original drawings were executed in a chalk that was easily smudged, Robert McGill Mackall may have used this print to present his design ideas, and to revise details as needed. (The print was framed by Ludwig Katzenstein in Baltimore.) A companion piece showing a scientist in his laboratory, entitled "Purification" is available (with details changed by the artist, including the scientist's collar). Mackall lived most of his life in Baltimore the Maryland Historical Society, the Morris Museum of Art and the Maryland State Archives own his work.
