Antique French Victorian Bracelet Earrings Brooch 18k Gold by Antoine Barrière

About the Item

An exquisite Victorian parure comprising of a pair of delicate earrings, dangling brooch, and the bangle bracelet. This French Victorian bracelet earrings pin brooch set was created in the 1900s by Antoine Barrière, 5 place Jean Jaures, in Montpellier, This antique jewelry suit is made of 18k yellow gold, and features cobalt blue enamel, opal and rose cut diamond. The whole antique set is masterfully decorated with a unified looking layout in the center of the piece. The edges are chased with fine leafy design. The earrings are openwork with very airy and feminine feel. Four opals together with the enamel elements create a three-dimensional flower like looking composition. Enamel condition is amazingly intact, considering the age of the piece. This fabulous French antique parure comes with an original fitted box. This Victorian bracelet width is graduating from 1" ( 2.6 cm) to 3/8" (1 cm). The bangle fits up to 6-1/4-inch (15.5 cm) wrist. Weight 29.3 grams. The bracelet is stamped with Antoine Barrière workshop mark, and French hallmarks for 18 karat gold. The brooch measures 1 ½” x 1 3/8” (3.8 x 3.5 cm), the removable pendant 1 3/8” x 5/8” (3.4 x 1.5 cm). It weighs 16.7 grams. The earrings measure 1” x ¾” (2.5 x 1.8 cm) and weigh 8.3 grams. Vintage French jewelry is highly valued by jewelry experts and enthusiasts. Since the late Renaissance, France has been established itself as one of the world trendsetters in art and fashion. A quick look at the top 5 French jewelry designers — Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Hermes, Chaumet, Chanel — describes French level of greatness even better. What allowed France to reach such a high level in the jewelry world hierarchy? In a nutshell, it’s because of the apprenticeship system. In the beginning of 1950s in France anyone at the age 14 could start learning the craft. This way French jewelers, like no others in the world, have been gaining a substantial portion of experience at the early age. Even non-designer jewels were produced by the high skilled masters. Most of the modern jewelry is not anymore handcrafted, and mass market-oriented production is prevailing. Jewelry designs are streamlined to use as less hand labor as possible. That’s why today vintage French jewelry is in such high demand.
