About the Item

This stunning and rare Art Deco jewellery set was created in Germany in the 1920s. Condition Report: Very Good - A couple of surface scratches to the black plastic of the bracelet. This is only visible upon very close inspection and is consistent with age and use. The Details... This zinc alloy and black plastic necklace and bracelet set features a geometric design, typically Art Deco design comprised of linear panels bolted together. Some of the panels are channel set with small, round, clear rhinestones. The necklace features an elaborate pendant encrusted with small, round rhinestones and is also detailed with a single, square cut rhinestone and has a black glass bead drop suspended from it too. The necklace measures 41cm in length. With the pendant measuring 5cm x 2cm. The necklace fastens with a box clasp. The bracelet measures 18cm in length and also fastens with a box clasp. The necklace and bracelet are both signed - the reverse of one panel on each is stamped 'DRGM 1138525'. A Short History... During the 1920s and early 1930s, jewellery was influenced by the dawn of a new era. There was a push for all things modern after the shock of the First World War - people wanted to be cleansed of the old and celebrate the new. In the world of design a pure, hard-edged style was craved. This was evident in Bauhaus architecture, cubist art and the dropped-waist, linear-cut silhouette of the Flapper Girl. Jewellery designers looked to celebrate a burgeoning, bright industrial future in their work, creating pieces that looked almost mechanical with their sharp shapes and chrome coloured highlights. This set is certainly a-typical of Art Deco jewellery design during the period - its bold geometry, encrusted with bright rhinestones for a new feminine look and movement. This jewellery is stamped DRGM, which stands for Deutsches Reichs Gebrauchsmuster. The term describes jewellery manufactured in Germany from 1891 until the 1950s and these earrings are a typical DRGM design from the Art Deco period. Wear it With...
