Movado 1948 Calendermeto Triple Date and Moonphase Travel Purse Clock & Leather

About the Item

Rare calendermeto travel clock designed by Movado. Beautiful and very rare calendermeto travel purse clock, created in Switzerland by the Movado Clock Factories, back in the 1948-1954. Crafted in stainless steel and leather with the purpose to use in desks, travels, in the pocket or a purse. Patented Ermeto winding device by means of the sliding case, with all original parts. The Movado Ermeto watch was a pocket/purse watch manufactured between 1926 and 1985 by Movado in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland. The model, a joint creation between case maker Huguenin Frères and watch maker Movado, was introduced in 1926. It won the Grand Prix at the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. The trademark Ermeto derives from the Greek ερμητικός, transliterated as ermētikós, which means “hermetic, sealed”, in reference to the characteristics of the case design, emphasizing the watch protection against dust, moisture and shocks, although it was not hermetic in the strict sense of the term. The rectangular case is made up of two sliding covers enclosing the timepiece inside. The Ermeto range comprised four sizes, from smaller to bigger (approximate dimensions with the case closed included for reference purposes only, they may vary depending on each units. The latter a desk clock with an 8-day movement. The "Baby" was intended mainly for ladies' handbags whereas the "Normal" was promoted as a unisex model. Case: Patent winding by sliding case number Ref-1248 and 080M in stainless steel with sliding rails, plain leather and a retractable hinged slash for display. Dial: 12 hour, two tones silver, with apertures for the moonphase, day and month. Radium coated Arabic numbers, blue numerals for the days, tapered black steel for minutes and hour hands and red tipped for date hand. Inscribed Movado Switzerland inside a linear double frame. Movement: Mechanical automatic hand winding, 15 jewel calibre 150MN, moonphase, triple calendar complications. lever escapement.monometallic balance, self-compensating Breguet balance.spring. Weight: 83.6 Grams, (53.59 Dwt.). Measurements: Open is 76 mm by 36 mm by 28 mm (2.99 x 1.41 x 1.10 Inches). Closed is 51 mm by 36 mm by 16 mm (2.0 x 1.41 x 0.63 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the reference and serial numbers and signed, "MOVADO FACTORIES SWITZERLAND BASE METAL 1248 / 080M". Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this clock is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage.     A travel clock designed by Cress Arrow Co. An incredible travel-desk clock, created in America during the art deco period by the jewelry and luxury watches makers Cress Arrow Co., back in the 1925. This fabulous flamboyant piece is a truly magnificent work of Art Deco jewelry art and has been crafted with very elegant Japonism patterns in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with accents in platinum for the setting of the diamonds. The piece is decorated in both sides with abstract images of the Japan national tree of the cherry blossom, entirely embellished with applications of blue, black and rose enamels. It is fitted with a slider mechanism to discover the dial and stand in the desk. The movement is Swiss, mechanical hand winding. The dial is silver with platinum arabic numbers and arrows, signed Swiss. Japonesque, Japonism or Japonaiserie are French terms that refers to the popularity and influence of Japanese art and design among a number of Western European artists during the late 19th century, the art nouveau and the art deco period. Diamonds: The platinum arabic numbers and the arrows are with 144 old European rose cut diamonds, 1.08 carats, E/F color, VS-1 clarity. Weight: 109.35 Grams, (70.09 Dwt). Measurements: 57 mm by 45 mm by 9 mm (2.24 x 1.77 x 0.35 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark monogram, the reference serial numbers, the gold assay marks and signed, "CRESSARROW 18K 63086-086". The Cressarrow Company Was originally formed as a jewelry manufacturer in Newark New Jersey in 1890 as the N.E. Whiteside & Co and was succeeded by Whiteside and Blank in 1903. The firm manufactured 14 carat brooches, scarf pins, sleeve buttons, studs, and bracelets, accented with enamel. Later they produced high quality jewelry in platinum. The United States Patent and Trademark Office registration indicates that the C with the arrow through it was first used for brooches, cuff-buttons, pendants, necklaces and rings by the original firm beginning in 1890. In 1911, the company was awarded the exclusive licence to sell the expansion bracelet that had been invented in Germany.
