House 003

Vacation Home by Melanie Raines in Driftwood, TX

A second home for a family looking to spend time together and entertain in the Texas Hill Country. In collaboration with Mexican architect Bernardo Pozas, the home overlooks a private vineyard and is centered around a wine room for showcasing the family's eclectic wine collection. The clients' Austin primary home is one of the city's only Art Deco homes, with a collection of pop art-- so they wanted to create a home with a more serene palette of materials for the country home, while still reflecting their personalities and colorful style. We chose, in many cases, to source expressive forms and textures in lieu of color, which made for a rich collaboration during the design process. All custom wood and stonework was sourced in Monterey, Mexico, and mixed with a global layering of textured pieces including a custom coffee table by Rogan Gregory, heavy Alpaca drapery, Dedar silk wallcoverings, and a stone soaking tub. Our favorite quirk of the home is the tiny fence in the yard, sitting only about one foot tall, as a 'run' for the family's bunnies!
