Simple Pleasures North of New York

“The charm of this newly created, double-height, indoor-outdoor room lies in its simplicity,” Brooklyn-based architect and designer Elizabeth Roberts says of a conservatory she designed in a stately circa 1904 Colonial Revival house just outside New York City. Roberts, who is known for placing a premium on light and space in her projects and for her deft mixing of old and new objects, let the wooded grove just beyond the glass inform her choice of honey- and terracotta-toned furnishings, including the woven bucket chairs and Simone Bonanni’s Moooi Obon high ceramic table, all of which were found on 1stDibs, as was the pair of 1920s mercury-glass sconces, chosen with the building’s early history in mind.
