Lead UX Researcher

The 1stdibs Product team is a highly collaborative team that builds buyer, seller, and internal product experiences for our users. We work in our office headquarters in Astor Place, New York City. As a multi-sided platform, the Product Team at 1stdibs is responsible for buyer and seller experiences across the web and app-based products, as well as a suite of web-based tools to support internal teams.
We are seeking a Lead UX Researcher who will own our design research practice. The Lead UX Researcher will help teams understand user behaviors and needs by providing actionable insights that drive our business. A researcher at 1stdibs must be flexible, capable of adapting the right research methodology to fit the needs and constraints of a project while maintaining quality and rigor. The researcher will work with stakeholders to plan and execute research activities to support 1stdibs’ strategic initiatives and coach product teams in running discovery and usability activities.
What you'll do
  • Collaborate with product teams to understand how research can support their work, set their strategy, and prioritize their roadmaps
  • Scope and execute variety of research projects including: site visits, discovery interviews, usability studies, and surveys
  • Identify appropriate research methodology to match needs of project team
  • Distill raw research data into actionable insights and opportunities
  • Coach product teams on research best practices
  • Present research findings and insights across teams, disciplines, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with analytics team to improve the impact of quantitative and qualitative research
  • Support evolution of our buyer, seller, and interior designer user journeys
  • Recruit participants for research activities
  • Craft and handle tools and resources to support research initiatives across teams

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience as a design researcher in a product environment
  • Experience planning and moderating a variety of research methods including usability and discovery activities
  • Fluency with usability tools
  • Capacity to present research activities and findings across disciplines
  • Possess strong verbal, written and visual presentation skills with value placed on storytelling
  • Passion for helping teams develop user empathy
