Pool Time
Located in New York, NY
Fun, vibrant mixed media piece. Woman diving into the pool. On wood. About the Artist: Allen's work has gained recognition world-wide for it's complex layering of mixed media works that create a narrative of modern American culture. His work today is a culmination of many years of painting, thinking and experiencing. He blends urban street art with his background of typography, mixed media collage, and abstract expressionism into each of his urban pop expressionist works. The son of fine artist / commercial artist Harrison Allen, Mark learned a lot very early from his talented father. His think training also includes a bachelor degree in commercial art from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. He continued study at Parson's School of Design in New York City where he had an apartment across the street from Andy Warhol's factory (they met in 1982.) He continued study later at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Allen is represented in galleries throughout the world. Museums he has shown in include The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum - Cleveland, OH; Experience Music Project - Seattle, WA; Memphis Brooks Museum of Art; Dallas Museum of Art, and Acadian Museum - Lafayette, LA. He was a major figure in the graphic design community for over two decades. Much of his celebrated work is from the entertainment industry doing graphic design work for high profile clients including the 'Yu-Gi-Oh' logo, 'The Wizard of Oz' 60th Anniversary logo, redesigned Coca-Cola bottles, designed 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' logo for Disney and art directed for recording artist Sean 'P Diddy...

Never Trump
Located in New York, NY
Original. Part of Candy Wrapper Collage series in Pop Art style. Natural wood frame. Homage to Trump. About the Artist: Benjamin received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the American University in Washington D.C. and her Master’s Degree in Art Education from New York University. In addition she received an Associate’s Degree in Textile Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology and studied at The Art Student’s League, The Parson’s School of Design and The New School. Benjamin taught art for 34 years. While on sabbatical from teaching she studied textile design. For the next 15 years she continued to teach, as well as freelance as a textile designer in both home furnishings and the apparel markets. In the mid 90’s her focus turned towards computer graphics, and as an art educator, she incorporated this into her curriculum. She was awarded for a “successful practice in crossing the digital divide through art and technology” by the United States Department of Education. Her early works were oils and acrylics. During the late 60’s her interest was in pure abstraction. Pop Art and the human figure began to interest her in the early 70’s. Gradually, Benjamin was drawn to experimenting with mixed media. In the 80’s there was the influence of a career in textile design that moved her towards a more decorative style. In the 90’s, she became involved in the teaching of computer graphics. This was to have a profound influence in aiding and developing a more recent “POP” style. She began to incorporate into her paintings, torn pieces of digital printouts of her subjects. “The part of me that is the “digital artist” became very inspired by the use of the computer as a tool with which I could manipulate my subject and its color energy. The “fine artist” in me was then able to incorporate these concepts into a new image on my canvas. Having always had an interest in mixed media, my current work is now a combination of both POP and Collage. Since 2008 I have been creating a body of work dubbed “Candy Wrapper Collage”. A juried show’s theme, “gluttony”, challenged me to ultimately explore my POP figures through a new medium….candy wrappers! Razor blades are my new paintbrushes and candy wrappers are my new paints. Utilizing torn, cut and expired candy wrappers and their packaging, I render my subjects in diverse and colorful forms. I create representational images of celebrities and pop-culture objects...

R.B. Kitaj Screenprint Collage Hand Signed British Pop Art Film Still Camel
Located in Surfside, FL
The Most Important Film Ever Made, 1972 Color screen print and collage, from the edition of 70. 15 x 17 in 38.1 x 43.2 cm Published by the artist with Marlborough Graphics at the Kelpra studio in 1972. This work is also in the collections of TATE London and the Victoria & Albert Museum. the price reflects the fact that there is no backing page. Stylistically, these are hybrid works, influenced by Pop art and the modernist tradition of the Readymade, a work of art created when a mundane found object is named as an artwork and set in an art context. This avant-garde concept was originally invented by the Dada master Marcel Duchamp early in the twentieth century. In the 1960s it received renewed attention at a time when artistic norms were again being questioned. Reacting to Andy Warhol’s Pop imagery, Kitaj poignantly called his repurposed lithograph and silkscreen book covers “his soup can, his Liz Taylor.” The blatant use of images taken directly from commercial sources situates In Our Time as a precursor of appropriation art. In turning book covers into works of art, Kitaj is offering fragments of a history of knowledge, in which the content of each volume is at once mysterious and absent. Coming from this passionate bibliophile, the series is nothing less than an intellectual self-portrait. R.B. Kitaj, in full Ronald Brooks Kitaj . Ron Kitaj...

Interview Magazine (Diane von Furstenberg) (Signed by Andy Warhol) /// Pop Art
Located in Saint Augustine, FL
Artist: (after) Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987) Title: "Interview Magazine (Diane von Furstenberg)" Series: Interview Magazine *Signed by Warhol in black marker inside, on third page Year: 1981 Medium: Offset-Lithography; The complete November, 1981, Vol. XI, No. 11 issue of "Interview" magazine Overall size: 17" x 11" x .25" Condition: One small tear at right center edge of cover page. In otherwise excellent condition Notes: Provenance: private collection - Sacaramento, CA; acquired at a rare book fair in Pasadena, CA from notable autograph dealer Christophe Stickel. It is boldly signed on the third page at center right within a Barney's, New York advertisement. This is immediately seen once opening the first cover page. Approx. 90 pages total. We unconditionally guarantee the signature to be authentic. "Interview" is an American magazine founded in late 1969 by artist Andy Warhol and British journalist John Wilcock. The magazine, nicknamed "The Crystal Ball of Pop", features interviews with celebrities, artists, musicians, and creative thinkers. Interviews were usually unedited or edited in the eccentric fashion of Warhol's books and "The Philosophy of Andy Warhol: From A to B and Back Again". Diane von Fürstenberg (1946-) is a Belgian fashion designer best known for her wrap dress. She initially rose to prominence in 1969 when she married into the princely German House of Fürstenberg, as the wife of Prince Egon von Fürstenberg. Biography: Andy Warhol ( born Andrew Warhola; August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became a renowned and sometimes controversial artist. The Andy Warhol Museum in his native city, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, holds an extensive permanent collection of art and archives. It is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to a single artist. Warhol's art used many types of media, including hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music. He was also a pioneer in computer-generated art using Amiga computers that were introduced in 1984, two years before his death. He founded Interview magazine and was the author of numerous books, including The Philosophy of Andy Warhol and Popism: The Warhol Sixties. He managed and produced The Velvet Underground, a rock band which had a strong influence on the evolution of punk rock music. He is also notable as a gay man who lived openly as such before the gay liberation movement. His studio, The Factory, was a well known gathering place that brought together distinguished intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, Bohemian street people, Hollywood celebrities, and wealthy patrons. Warhol has been the subject of numerous retrospective exhibitions, books, and feature and documentary films. He coined the widely used expression "15 minutes of fame". Many of his creations are very collectible and highly valuable. The highest price ever paid for a Warhol painting is US$105 million for a 1963 canvas titled "Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster)". A 2009 article in The Economist described Warhol as the "bellwether of the art market". Warhol's works include some of the most expensive paintings...

Visual art is among the oldest forms of expression, and it has been evolving for centuries. Beautiful objects can provide a window to the past or insight into our current time. Art collecting enhances daily life through the presence of meaningful work. It displays an appreciation for culture, whether a print by Elizabeth Catlett channeling social change or a narrative quilt by Faith Ringgold.

Contemporary art has lured more initiates to collecting than almost any other category, with notable artists including Yayoi Kusama, Marc Chagall, Kehinde Wiley and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Navigating the waiting lists for the next Marlene Dumas, Jeff Koons or Jasper Johns has become competitive.

When you’re living with art, particularly as people more often work from home and enjoy their spaces, it’s important to choose art that resonates with you. While the richness of art with its many movements, styles and histories can be overwhelming, the key is to identify what is appealing and inspiring. Artwork can play with the surrounding color of a room, creating a layered approach. The dynamic shapes and sizes of sculptures can set different moods, such as a bronze by Miguel Guía on a mantel or an Alexander Calder mobile suspended over a table. A wall of art can evoke emotions in an interior while showing off your tastes and interests. A salon-style wall mixing eclectic pieces like landscape paintings with charcoal drawings is a unique way to transform a space and show off a collection.

For art meditating on the subconscious, investigate Surrealists like Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí. Explore Pop art and its leading artists such as Andy Warhol, Rosalyn Drexler and Keith Haring for bright and bold colors. Not only did these artists question art itself, but also how we perceive society. Similarly, 20th-century photography and abstract painting reconsidered the intent of art.

Abstract Expressionists like Helen Frankenthaler and Lee Krasner and Color Field artists including Sam Gilliam broke from conventional ideas of painting, while Op artists such as Yaacov Agam embraced visual trickery and kinetic movement. Novel visuals are also integral to contemporary work influenced by street art, such as sculptures and prints by KAWS.

Realist portraiture is a global tradition reflecting on what makes us human. This is reflected in the work of Slim Aarons, an American photographer whose images are at once candid and polished and appeared in Holiday magazine and elsewhere. Innovative artists Mickalene Thomas and Kerry James Marshall are now offering new perspectives on the form.

Collecting art is a rewarding, lifelong pursuit that can help connect you with the creative ways historic, modern and contemporary artists have engaged with the world. For more tips on piecing together an art collection, see our guide to buying and displaying art.
