About the Item

Being nearsighted from a young age, Audrey Stone is drawn to seeing things up close; her work entails detail in the making and her desire for visual intimacy. How craft and art are distinguished from one another is a fascination for Stone and her work often involves a tension of two parts, like the use of two mediums - thread and paint. For Stone this duality is an expression of existing in two places at once. During her 30 year career, Stone has worked in many mediums, including painting, sculpture, drawing, mixed media and installation. Her work has been exhibited widely across the US as well as in Prague, London, Bulgaria, Paris and more recently Tokyo. Recent exhibits include a 2015 two-person show at Muriel Guepin Gallery, a solo exhibit of a thread based installation on Governor’s Island in 2014, and group shows at The Arkansas Art Center, Geoffrey Young Gallery, Kentler International Drawing Space, and Jeff Bailey Gallery. Her work is included in many private collections across the United States, in Hong Kong, as well as The Amateras Foundation in Sophia, Bulgaria and the Fidelity Investments Collection. Stone was born and raised in New York City and has many memories of haunting museums, galleries and the studios of established artists while growing up. She studied painting at Pratt Institute and The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and received her BFA from Pratt Institute in 1986. In 1993 She received an MFA from Hunter College. Audrey Stone lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

  • Sara Eichner, 32 Layers Pink and Orange, 2016, , Minimalist Abstraction, Ink
    By Sara Eichner
    Located in Darien, CT
Sara Eichner wants to create a space where point of view can not be fixed. Optical games stand in for the struggle to comprehend the complexities of seeing. Using simple drawing tools and paper, she engages a systematic process that branches into new forms as they meet if / else junctures in the work. The series grow iteratively, engaging perception as a subject and a means. To begin, she creates a grid of converging lines in perspective to establish a basic unit of pictorial space. That bound unit: lines and perspective; becomes the foundation for building complexity. Variables such as repetition, color, incremental rotation, inversion, concentration and dispersion are applied. Properties of the initial unit are subverted and transformed. Play between solidity and transparency, mass and lightness, concentration and diffusion, slows down perception. A build up of marks aggregates into optical mixtures and resolves into patterns created by processes of rotation and layering. These patterns and binary relationships emerge slowly. The networks of lines converge and disperse creating multiple visual paths through fields of structured accumulation. Her very human hand leaves behind texture that animates the final artifacts of this process. Sara Eichner is a graduate of Kenyon College (BA) and Syracuse University (MFA). She has had solo exhibitions at PPOW and Sears Peyton...

Countably Infinite, 2022 by On Hansen Oil wax, acrylic, graphite, organic ink, and crayon on Awagami paper Image size: 35.03 in. H x 25.59 in. W Unframed ____________________________ On Hansen originally from Scandinavia is the pseudonym used by the photographer Cristian Hunter, a third-generation artist who has spent most of his professional career as a photographer. His work bears the traces of lived experiences, exploring the possibilities of formal abstraction, and seeking an organic experience between space and time through painting and photography. “There is no longer a single idea explaining everything, but an infinite number of essences giving meaning to an infinite number of objects. The world comes to a stop, but also lights up.” ― Albert Camus...
