2009

About the Item

Abstract black and grey charcoal drawing on thick, high quality Arches paper Vertical drawing, 25 x 20 inch image on 30.5 x 22.5 inch Arches paper 35 x 28.5 inches in black frame with AR non-glare glass & 8-ply white mat Signed, bottom right Excellent condition and ready to hang This contemporary, abstract charcoal drawing on high quality Arches paper was completed by East Hampton based artist, Ralph Stout, in 2009. Heavy black lines in dark charcoal are used to create outlines of bold abstract organic lines that contrast against a solid grey background. Bold, gestural lines of black charcoal intersect and form interesting abstract patterns. The simple yet graphic drawing incorporates elements of abstraction and minimalism with a modern twist. The drawing is complemented with a black frame with AR non-glare glass and an 8-ply mat. The frame has sturdy wire on the back for hanging. The artist's signature is located in the lower right corner. About Stout & his work: Ralph Stout graduated from Bucknell University in 1960 with a degree in mathematics and an enduring interest in the visual arts. Despite the demands of a series of day jobs, he always found time for artistic pursuits, and when the opportunity finally arose to devote all of his time to the arts, he pounced on it. Over the past several years, Stout has become an accomplished abstractionist. His acrylic paintings on canvas and board, which often exploit the tension between the putative foreground and the background of an image, are colorful, hard-edged and to the point. His works on paper reveal a draughtsman's attitude toward abstract form and his photographs a critic’s take on the human condition. Stout currently lives and works in East Hampton, NY.
